Allow us to introduce our next intern: Hugo Sierra!
Hugo is a senior at University of Cal Poly Pomona majoring in Industrial Engineering.
Where are you from? Where did you grow up?
I was born and raised in Carson, CA.
How did you decide on your university for school?
I chose Cal Poly Pomona because it has one of the best engineering programs in the state and provides a lot of opportunities for hands-on lessons and experiences.
How did you decide on your major? Why are you interested in pursuing a career in construction?
What I like about my major is that it’s not bound to a specific concentration; I have the ability to pursue a career in any field I choose. I’m interested in pursuing a career in construction because I have been around it my whole life, and now I’m curious to see and explore the engineering side of it.
What initially interested you about the Total-Western Internship Program?
The Total-Western internship interested me because it offers hands-on experience in the field at an actual construction site rather than having me sit in an office all day.
How’s it going so far?
It’s been great – I’m learning a lot about the construction business.
What are you enjoying most?
I’m really enjoying working with the team in the trailer and walking around the site with them.
What do you hope to gain by the time your internship concludes?
I’m hoping to gain valuable experience that I can then apply to my career after I graduate.

Glad to have you on board, Hugo! We’ll check back in toward the end of the program.
